🎓 Eligibility Criteria

• Educational Qualification (as on 07 October 2026): Must have passed 12th Standard or equivalent from a recognized Board/University.
• For DEO/DEO Grade 'A' in Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, SSC, and Ministry of Culture: 12th Standard pass in Science stream with Mathematics as a subject.
• Candidates appearing in 12th exam can also apply, but they must possess the essential qualification on or before the cut‑off date (07 October 2026).
• Nationality: Citizen of India, or subject of Nepal/Bhutan, or person of Indian origin migrated from specified countries (with eligibility certificate).
• Only male candidates are eligible for vacancies in Border Roads Organization (BRO), if any.

📖 Examination Scheme – Two Tiers

Tier‑I (Computer Based Examination)

• All questions are objective MCQs. Negative marking: 0.50 marks for each wrong answer.
• Questions will be set in English, Hindi, and the language opted by the candidate (as per Annexure‑XV of the notification).
• Minimum qualifying marks: UR 30%, OBC/EWS 25%, All other categories 20%.

Tier‑II (Computer Based Examination + Skill/Typing Test)

• Negative marking in Tier‑II: 1 mark deducted for each wrong answer in Section‑I, II & III.
• Section‑III (Computer Knowledge) and Section‑IV (Skill/Typing Test) are qualifying in nature.
• Typing Test: English – 35 w.p.m. (about 10500 key depressions/hour); Hindi – 30 w.p.m. (about 9000 key depressions/hour).
• Skill Test for DEO: 15000 key depressions/hour for posts in specified ministries; 8000 key depressions/hour for other DEO posts.
• Additional compensatory time of 5 minutes for eligible PwBD candidates in Skill/Typing Test.

• English Language: Spot the error, fill in the blanks, synonyms/antonyms, spellings, idioms & phrases, one‑word substitution, sentence improvement, active/passive voice, direct/indirect narration, shuffling, cloze passage, comprehension.
• General Intelligence: Semantic analogy, symbolic operations, number analogy, trends, figural analogy, space orientation, semantic classification, Venn diagrams, drawing inferences, figural classification, series, coding‑decoding, critical thinking, problem solving, emotional intelligence, etc.
• Quantitative Aptitude: Number systems, whole numbers, decimals, fractions, percentages, ratio & proportion, square roots, averages, interest (simple & compound), profit & loss, discount, partnership, mixture & alligation, time & work, time & distance, algebra, geometry, mensuration, trigonometry, statistical charts.
• General Awareness: Current events, history, culture, geography, economic scene, general policy, scientific research, everyday science, environment, etc.
• Computer Knowledge (Tier‑II): Computer basics, CPU, input/output devices, memory, software (MS Office), internet & e‑mail, networking, cyber security (hacking, virus, worms, Trojan, etc.).

🎯 Reservation & Provisions for Persons with Benchmark Disabilities

• SC/ST/OBC/EWS/ESM: As per Government of India rules.
• PwBD Categories: Suitable for LDC/JSA and DEO posts as per Notification No. 38-16/2020-DD-III dated 04.01.2021 (as amended).
• Suitable Disabilities: For LDC/JSA – B, LV, D, HH, OA, BA, OL, BL, OAL, CP, LC, Dw, AAV, MDy, SD/SI without neurological/limb dysfunction, ASD (M, MoD), ID, SLD, MI, and MD involving above. For DEO – LV, D, HH, OA, BA, OL, BL, OAL, CP, LC, Dw, AAV, MDy, SD/SI without neurological/limb dysfunction, ASD (M), ID, SLD, MI, and MD involving above.
• Scribe/Compensatory Time: Facility available for PwBD candidates (as per Para 7 of the notification). Own scribe allowed subject to OTR and Aadhaar authentication of scribe.
• Candidates must produce relevant disability certificate in prescribed format at the time of examination/document verification.

📝 How to Apply Online – SSC OTR Based

• Step 1 (One Time Registration – OTR): Visit https://ssc.gov.in/login and complete your OTR on the new website. (Old OTR from ssc.nic.in will not work.) OTR requires Aadhaar‑based authentication or document upload.
• Step 2: After OTR, log in and click on the "Apply" link for CHSL 2026 under "Latest Notifications".
• Step 3: Fill in the application form – personal details, educational qualification, preferred examination centres (choose three within the same region), medium of exam, typing test medium, etc.
• Step 4: Capture your live photograph using the application module (without cap/spectacles). Upload signature (10‑20 KB, JPEG).
• Step 5: If you belong to PwBD and require scribe/compensatory time, indicate accordingly and upload relevant certificate.
• Step 6: Pay the application fee (if applicable) through online modes.
• Step 7: After successful payment, submit the application and take a printout for future reference.
• Correction: During the correction window (14‑16 Oct 2026), candidates can modify their application twice (with fees of ₹200 and ₹500 respectively).

⚠️ Crucial Instructions

• Admit Card: Will be issued online only. Candidates must download and carry two printed copies along with a valid photo ID (Aadhaar, Voter ID, Passport, etc.) to the exam centre.
• Biometric/Aadhaar Verification: May be done at the examination centres. Candidates must reach well in advance.
• Prohibited Items: Mobile phones, smart watches, calculators, electronic gadgets, textual material, bits of paper, etc., are strictly prohibited. Possession leads to cancellation.
• Negative Marking: Tier‑I: 0.50 marks; Tier‑II: 1 mark per wrong answer.
• Selection Process: Based on overall performance in Tier‑II (Section‑I & II) subject to qualifying Section‑III and IV. Final allotment based on merit‑cum‑preference of posts.
• Post Preferences: Candidates will be required to fill post preferences through an Online Option Form before declaration of final result.
• Document Verification: Will be conducted by the User Departments after declaration of final result. Candidates must produce original certificates in support of their claims.
• False Information: Furnishing wrong information will lead to cancellation and debarment (up to 7 years).
• All India Service Liability: Selected candidates are liable to serve anywhere in India.
