🎓 Eligibility Criteria
- Master's Degree: General category: at least 55% marks (without rounding off); OBC-NCL/SC/ST/PwD/Third gender: 50% marks. Candidates appearing in final year or awaiting result can also apply provisionally.
- Four-Year Bachelor's Degree (e.g. B.E./B.Tech/B.Sc. Research): Minimum 75% marks or equivalent grade. Such candidates are eligible for JRF and Ph.D. admission BUT NOT for Assistant Professor.
- Ph.D. Degree (completed before 19 Sept 1991): Relaxation of 5% marks in Master's (i.e. from 55% to 50%).
- Foreign Qualification: Must obtain equivalence from UGC / Association of Indian Universities (AIU).
- Third gender candidates: Same relaxation as SC/ST/PwD in fee, age and eligibility. Cut-offs will be the lowest among reserved categories.
- Candidate must complete Master's degree within two years from NET result for JRF/Assistant Professor, and within one year for "Ph.D. only" category, otherwise disqualified.
✍️ Exam Pattern (CBT – 3 hours)

- All questions are objective (MCQ). No negative marking.
- Both papers are compulsory. No break between papers.
- Question paper medium: English & Hindi (except language papers).
- Duration: 180 minutes (3 hours) combined.
- Normalization (Equi‑percentile method) will be applied if a subject is held in multiple shifts.

🎯 Reservation & PwBD Provisions
- PwBD candidates with 40% or more disability are eligible for scribe/assistive technology and compensatory time (20 minutes per hour).
- Blindness, locomotor disability (both arms affected) and cerebral palsy candidates automatically get scribe facility.
- Other PwD candidates with less than 40% disability but having difficulty in writing can also avail scribe on production of medical certificate (Annexure I/IA).
- Compensatory time: 60 minutes for 3‑hour exam for candidates using scribe.
- Candidate can opt for own scribe (qualification one step below the candidate) or NTA‑provided scribe.
⚠️ Important Instructions
- Application is online only at https://ugcnet.nta.nic.in (through MeriPechhaan single sign‑on). No offline form accepted.
- Live photograph capture at the time of filling application (no pre‑existing photo). Background white, 80% face visible, no cap/spectacles.
- Scanned signature (10‑50 kb) and PwD certificate (if applicable) to be uploaded.
- Confirmation page will be generated only after successful fee payment. No need to send any document to NTA.
- Correction window available from 22‑24 May 2026 (no fee for correction?). As per PDF, correction charges may apply per correction. Please check official notice.
- Admit card will be downloaded from NTA website. No physical copy sent.
- Candidates must bring original photo ID (Aadhaar, PAN, Passport, Driving License) and printed admit card to exam centre.
- Use of unfair means (impersonation, mobile phone, copying) will lead to cancellation and debarment from future exams.
- Number of candidates to be qualified for Assistant Professor is 6% of total appeared (category‑wise). JRF slots are fixed.
📝 How to Apply Online
- Step 1: Visit https://ugcnet.nta.nic.in and click on "Online Registration". Use MeriPechhaan / DigiLocker login or register.
- Step 2: Fill basic details – name, date of birth (as per Class X certificate), mobile number, email ID.
- Step 3: Complete application form – select subject (as per post‑graduation), choose four exam cities in order of preference, category, PwD status, etc.
- Step 4: Upload live photograph (using webcam or NTA app), scanned signature, and PwD certificate (if applicable).
- Step 5: Pay fee online via Net Banking/Debit/Credit Card/UPI.
- Step 6: Download and print Confirmation Page for future reference.
- Correction, if needed, can be done from 22‑24 May 2026 through the portal.
