🎯 Age Eligibility (as on 31 March 2026)

Class I6 years to less than 8 years (born between 01.04.2018 and 31.03.2020).
Children born on 01.04.2018 are also eligible.
Balvatika-3 (Class I equivalent)Same as Class I age criteria (as per KVS norms).
Balvatika-25 years to less than 7 years (as on 31.03.2026).
Balvatika-14 years to less than 6 years (as on 31.03.2026).
NoteRelaxation of up to 2 years for Children with Special Needs (CwSN).

πŸ“‹ Admission Priorities & Reservation

25% seats (RTE Quota)Reserved for children from Economically Weaker Sections / Disadvantaged Groups in neighbourhood (as per RTE Act).
Horizontal Reservation3% seats for Children with Special Needs (CwSN) across all categories.
SC / ST / OBC (NCL)15% SC, 7.5% ST, 27% OBC-NCL seats reserved (subject to state list).

Priority Categories (Civil/Defence Sector KVs) :

  • Category-I : Children of transferable / non-transferable Central Government employees & ex-servicemen.
  • Category-II : Children of transferable / non-transferable employees of Autonomous Bodies / PSUs / IHL of Govt. of India.
  • Category-III : Children of transferable / non-transferable State Government employees.
  • Category-IV : Children of transferable / non-transferable employees of State Autonomous Bodies / PSUs / IHL.
  • Category-V : All other children (open category).

Note: For Project / IHL sector KVs, priority order differs slightly (sponsoring organisation employees get first preference). For complete details, refer to official notification.

πŸ“‘ Documents Required (to be uploaded)

  • Birth Certificate issued by competent authority (Municipal Corporation / Panchayat / Hospital).
  • Recent passport size photograph of the child.
  • Caste certificate (if applying under SC/ST/OBC-NCL) – valid certificate from competent authority.
  • Certificate for CwSN (if applicable) from civil surgeon / competent authority (visually identifiable cases may be accepted without certificate initially).
  • Service certificate / transfer certificate of parent (for priority categories I-IV).
  • Proof of residence (Aadhar card / Voter ID / Passport / Utility bill etc.) for neighbourhood verification.
  • Income certificate / BPL certificate (for RTE quota).

Note: Self-attested copies to be uploaded. Original documents will be verified at the time of admission.

🏫 Balvatika Schools (Selected KVs)

Balvatika-1, 2 & 3 are available only in select Kendriya Vidyalayas across India. A complete list of 518 KVs offering Balvatika classes is available in the official notification. The list includes schools in regions like Agra, Ahmedabad, Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Ernakulam, Gurugram, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Jabalpur, Jaipur, Jammu, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Patna, Raipur, Ranchi, Silchar, Tinsukia, Varanasi, and many more.

Parents are advised to check the official list before applying for Balvatika admission.

🎲 Admission Process – Class I & Balvatika

  • Step 1: Online registration on KVS admission portal (link below).
  • Step 2: After registration, eligible candidates are considered for draw of lots in the following sequence:
    (i) RTE Quota (25% seats) – lottery among eligible neighbourhood candidates.
    (ii) CwSN Lottery (horizontal reservation).
    (iii) Priority Category-I & II (Civil/Defence) / I-III (Project/IHL) – lottery within each category.
    (iv) Then remaining seats filled by subsequent priority categories as per order.
    (v) Reservation shortfall for SC/ST/OBC-NCL filled after category admission.
  • Step 3: Provisional lists (1st, 2nd, 3rd) published on school notice board & website.
  • Step 4: Selected candidates must complete admission formalities within stipulated time.

  • Fill the online registration form with child’s details, parent details, and category.
  • Upload child’s photograph and birth certificate.

  • No application fee is required.
  • Take a printout of the submitted application for future reference.
