Aadhaar Services on SMS
Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has introduced “Aadhaar Services on SMS” for residents who do not have access to internet, resident portal or mAadhaar app. These services can be availed by sending SMS from the registered mobile number to 1947.
Generate Virtual ID (VID)
GVID <SPACE> Aadhaar-Last-4-Digits
Example: GVID 9123 → Send to 1947
Retrieve Virtual ID (VID)
RVID <SPACE> Aadhaar-Last-4-Digits
Example: RVID 9123 → Send to 1947
Get OTP
Using Aadhaar Number
GETOTP <SPACE> Aadhaar-Last-4-Digits
Using Virtual ID
GETOTP <SPACE> VirtualID-Last-6-Digits
Lock Aadhaar
Step 1:
GETOTP Aadhaar-Last-4-Digits
Step 2:
LOCKUID Aadhaar-Last-4-Digits OTP
Note: Virtual ID must be generated before locking Aadhaar.
Unlock Aadhaar
Step 1:
GETOTP VirtualID-Last-6-Digits
Step 2:
UNLOCKUID VirtualID-Last-6-Digits OTP
Note: Aadhaar Unlock is allowed only through Virtual ID.
Enable Biometric Lock
Step 1:
GETOTP Aadhaar / VirtualID
Step 2:
ENABLEBIOLOCK Aadhaar/VID OTP
If Aadhaar is locked, biometric lock cannot be enabled.
Disable Biometric Lock
Step 1:
GETOTP Aadhaar / VirtualID
Step 2:
DISABLEBIOLOCK Aadhaar/VID OTP
Temporarily Unlock Biometrics
Step 1:
GETOTP Aadhaar / VirtualID
Step 2:
UNLOCKBIO Aadhaar/VID OTP
Temporary biometric unlock is valid for limited duration.
